Pamela Dorris DeJong has had a life-long dual career in the field of Nursing as well as Art. Art education was a priority in her available spare time, even while raising a family. She studied painting in the Rita Guzzi Studio in West Newton, Massachusetts for seventeen years, oil plein air painting and color theory in impressionism with Lois Griffel at the Cape Cod School of Art in Provincetown and attended many International Encaustic Conferences and other workshops and educational opportunities. She has exhibited in juried national and international exhibitions and is a member and former president of the New England Wax Association.
The focus of my work is always about healing. Whether it is healing the human body, the human soul or the environment and its flora and fauna, healing is how I use art in my life to heal myself and educate others. With a background as a pediatric nurse practitioner and an elementary school art teacher, my interest is in children, our future and protecting and preserving our earth’s natural resources. Many of my paintings are round to portray throwing a ball of energy at a concept. Others are depictions of a representational or abstract landscape. I also make collages of humanoid monotypes. Using these images, I respond to the world around me. It is my way of telling the story of our times.
