The Orb Heads started out as my emotional response to a trip to Berlin after seeing the Holocaust Monument. The first drawing started on the train to Hamburg. Concern about the current political climate in the United States lead to a creative process of drawing whimsical orb heads that symbolize disorganized and underdeveloped senses. The drawings became collages and were painted in bright colors to capture the essence of childhood experiences and emotions.
These Orb Head collages were inspired by children rolling into the house after a long day at school and nanny care, all talking at once, everyone hungry, kicking off their shoes, throwing their backpacks on the floor and heading for the kitchen. Sometimes friends come along with them. They all position themselves around the kitchen table and devour the food served them. The heads represent the chaotic, often overloaded, creative, colorful minds of children.
The orbs overlapping senses are examples of sympathetic resonance, each bouncing along in its own circular motion, its own spin, in its own pattern but part of a larger force
in harmony with everything else.
